Coaching Skills for Line Managers

Coaching Skills ActivityIncreasingly line managers are becoming the trainers and developers within organisations. They not only have to ensure that customer needs are satisfied, but that their staff learn effectively ‘on the job’, and that means ‘coaching’.
In some ways coaching is experiential learning on the job. It is not surprising therefore that MTa’s activity based approach lends itself so well to developing line managers as coaches.

Participants who experience ‘MTa Coaching Skills’ develop their understanding of the essential attitudes and skills of effective coaching through involvement in a programme of short activities which introduce, develop and assess the application of learning. Initially the tasks are practical, later more conceptual.

Each activity is followed by a review based on a questionnaire that guides individuals’ thinking and develops their understanding. The activities are sequenced so that learning builds through the workshop. In addition, to developing a practical conceptual understanding of the principles, the pack provides the opportunity for participants to:

  • Coach
  • Be coached
  • Observe and critique others.
The programme closes with everyone developing their own personal plans to apply and continue developing their knowledge and skills at work.
