Leadership Activities

The RAF complete a leadership activityLeadership is a challenging, and for some, a daunting role. Leaders have to provide vision, develop others’ commitment towards this vision and enable them to achieve it, so in the final analysis a leader can be measured by their ability to achieve their objectives by motivating others to follow.

The skills required by leaders are many and complex. These range from the basics needed by anyone when working with others (e.g. communication skills) as well as those that are particularly related to leadership (e.g. providing direction and guidance, understanding and meeting others’ needs, managing conflict, capitalising on diversity etc.).

MTa’s Leadership activities engage all of the participants in tasks that recreate leadership issues that individuals encounter at work. In some activities individuals learn about leadership by tackling tasks as 'leaderless teams', whereas in others tasks are tackled by teams with nominated leaders. Where leaders are nominated they have specific briefs and responsibilities together with different amounts of freedom to act and influence both the team and the task.

On completion of each task carefully designed review processes focus individuals’ attention on the issues the activity has raised, before taking people though a step by step approach to personal and team learning and development.
