Our quality explorer defines and maps the relationships between 170 different qualities. It can be used to support programme design, and to help you find an activity to meet your requirements. The qualities are sub-divided into the following categories:

  • Core Attributes: cognitive processes that are indivisible. CA’s are inherent in their personal make-up, but their effective use can be influenced by Personal Attitudes and Life Experiences.

  • Complex Attributes: cognitive processes that depend on various combinations of Core Attributes. Individuals can develop and improve their Complex Attributes by learning to make to better use their Core Attributes. Complex Attributes can be influenced by Personal Attitudes and Life Experiences.

  • Core Behaviours: observable actions that are indivisible. Some CB’s are direct manifestations of Core Attributes (e.g. Core Attribute: ability to listen, Core Behaviour: listening) Other CB’s are the result of combining core and/or complex attributes. Core Behaviours can be learned, their effective development and use being influenced by Personal Attitudes and Life Experiences.

  • Complex Behaviours: observable actions that are the result of combining core and/ or complex attributes with combinations of Core Behaviours. Complex Behaviours can be learned, their effective development and use being influenced by Personal Attitudes and Life Experiences.

  • Personal Attitudes: descriptions of an individual’s state of mind or dispositions. Although grounded in Personal Make-up, Personal Attitudes can develop or change with time. PA’s can affect an individual’s use of their attributes and their behaviour. Similarly PA’s can be affected by Life Experience and the current the environment.
